Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Party
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
